"Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.” – Thomas Jefferson
Get Your Mind Right
Your mindset is everything. If you believe it and have the go-getter attitude to boot, you'll be unstoppable – not without a few kinks in the road might we add. Here are a few ways to improve your mindset:
Start small. If you have a lofty goal in mind, break it down into actionable steps that are attainable. Take it day by day with an end goal in mind.
Flexibility is key. It can be tempting to go off track and throw in the towel entirely. Avoid going off the deep end. If you can't go through it, try going around it.
Be kind to yourself. Specific words we use determine how well we perform. According to the Association for Psychological Science, "For tasks requiring fine skills or for improving technique 'instructional self-talk', such as a technical instruction ('elbow-up' which Hatzigeorgiadis coaches beginner freestyle swimmers to say) is more effective than ‘motivational self-talk’ (e.g., 'give it all'), which seems to be more effective in tasks requiring strength or endurance, boosting confidence and psyching-up for competition." Choose your phrases or words wisely and repeat them day in and out to create a pattern of success and optimism.
