How We’re Burning Calories

Shape House

What It Is: Alyssa spent 55 minutes wrapped up in a sweatsuit, laying on a bed, watching This Is Us at this urban sweat lodge in the middle of New York City. Hello #SweatflixAndChill.

How She Felt During: “The beginning wasn’t bad at all – they warned you of this. At first, it was all relaxation and cozy sweats and dark lighting. But then came the last twenty minutes, in which I honestly thought I was going to die. They tell you that you can take out your arms from the space age looking sleeping bag they put you in, but I’m no quitter. So I sat and squirmed and felt my whole body tingle head to toe while beads of sweat turned into streams. Then they brought in the lavender infused cooling towel to put on my head and all was well in the world, until said towel grew warm with the rest of the room. So those last ten minutes were pretty agonizing.”

How She Felt After: “They unhooked me from the bed, and I felt almost euphoric and much lighter. Drenched from head to toe in sweat, yes, but lighter none the less. My skin does feel softer, and I do actually feel toxin free – whatever that means. The staff are super accommodating and don’t mention that you smell like you haven’t showered in ten years. The best parts? Endless options on Hulu and Netflix. The staff. That feel good mood you’re in after. The orange slices and tea they give you. The worst? The looks people give you on the subway when all you want to do is hop in the shower and save them from the smell. Needless to say, I don’t recommend going directly before work.”

New Yorkers: Use code 790501 to download the Pulsd app (with $5 to start) and purchase your first Shape House session for $39.

What We’re Downloading

What It Is: An investing app for people who don’t know how (or don’t want) to do their own investing. Acorns has been around for awhile now but over the past month we’ve been trying it out.

Thoughts? It’s great because you can set your rules for investing, just like with the Qapital app we love so much, and you don’t really think about it. For instance, we use a round up rule and a set amount rule every month, and it does all the work for you. Micro-investing tends to be great over the long haul (here’s hoping).

Pro Tip: Use this link to download the app, and they’ll invest your first $5 for you!

What We’re Listening To

Our Bodies

Learning the Hard Way: Sometimes it takes being knocked off our feet to knock some sense into our minds. Don’t kill yourself working when your body is wearing down. Pushing that extra day can be the difference between 24 hours out and 72+ hours out.

If You’re Wondering If You Should Stay Home: Stay home. It’s that simple. If you have to wonder, take the day off.
