“From out there on the Moon, international politics look so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, ‘Look at that, you son of a bitch.’” Edgar Mitchel, Apollo 14 astronaut

What We’re Watching

Apollo 13

Why We Watched This Oldie: The true story of the ill-fated Apollo 13 lunar mission in which NASA has to find a way to return the spacecraft to Earth safely after it undergoes massive internal damage. One word: inspiring.

How Is This Work Related?: NASA stories are the epitome of team work. Think about it: hundreds, sometimes thousands, of people with vastly different skill sets have to work on a project, in many cases for years, even decades, to accomplish a long term goal that usually has profound human impact. How long can you stand working with some of your co-workers?

Our Favorite Line: “It’s like flying with a dead elephant on our back.”

What We’re Listening To

Audio Books

Why? Inspired by an article in the New York Times, Is Listening to a Book the Same Thing as Reading It? we wanted to fill some of our down time with knowledge.

Starters List: We’ve selected Educated by Tara Westover. Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was 17 the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education and no one to intervene when one of Tara's older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

What We’re Eating

Califia Farms Probiotic Nutmilk Yogurt Drink Unsweetened

What It’s All About: Yes, nutmilk yogurt is an oxymoron but we’re not here to judge, we’re only here to enjoy.

Why We Love It: Traditional breakfast (cereal and milk) is tough to do sugar free (yes, we’re still sugar free) so we’ve had to get inventive.

The Recipe: ½ cup of whole grain oats, ¼ cup of sunflower seeds, ¼ cup of pumpkin seeds, ¼ cup of frozen berries and 1 cup of Califia Farms Probiotic Nutmilk Yogurt Drink Unsweetened. The night before, mix all the dry ingredients in a bowl. Add the nutmilk yogurt and stir and layer the frozen berries on top. Cover and place in the fridge overnight. In the morning, simply uncover and enjoy.
