“I’m not crying because I’m on my period or anything. I can’t believe a film about menstruation won an Oscar!” - Rayka Zehtabchi
In this very special Monday list, we’d like to take a moment to reflect on last night’s winnings at the Oscars to give you some Monday inspiration for your workweek.
From Lady Gaga
Best Original Song
Quote of the Night: “I've worked hard for a long time, and it's not about, you know...it's not about winning. But what it's about is not giving up. If you have a dream, fight for it. There's a discipline for passion. And it's not about how many times you get rejected or you fall down or you're beaten up. It's about how many times you stand up and are brave and you keep on going.”
Our Takeaway: If you’re going after your passion, it’s not going to be easy, but it’s going to be oh so worth it. Fall down seven times, stand up eight (more like fall down 700, stumble 8000, stand up time after time, but you get the picture). You’ve got whatever this work week throws at you. Go get ‘em monsters.
From Olivia Colman
Quote of the Night: “To be in this category with these extraordinary women, Glenn Close you’ve been my idol for so long and this is not how I wanted it to be and I think you’re amazing and I love you very much.”
Our Takeaway: Olivia Colman is a breath of fresh air, and we should all strive to be like her. And what we most adore is her recognition of every other person’s talent in her speech. It wasn’t about her and her win (to be honest she probably could have made it completely about herself, and we’d still adore her because she’s just perfection). It was about those in the room that helped her get to where she was and those that deserved the award just as much as her. I mean come on, she blew kisses at Gaga *swoon*. Use your platform to recognize those in your life that deserve recognition at the office. Tell your coworkers how much you appreciate them. And as always, give credit where credit is due.
From Alfonso Cuaron
Quote of the Night: “I want to thank the academy for recognizing a film centered around an indigenous woman, one of the 70 million domestic workers in the world without work rights, a character that has historically been relegated in the background in cinema… As artists our job is to look where others don’t. This responsibility becomes much more important in times when we are being encouraged to look away.”
Our Takeaway: Shed light on what matters because believe us, it matters. As humans our job is to look where others don’t. Add that to your workweek this season.

Quote of the Night: “To all of the nerdy girls out there who hide behind their sketchbooks — don’t be afraid to tell your stories to the world. You’re going to freak people out but you’ll probably connect with them, too, and that’s an amazing feeling to have. ”
Our Takeaway: At the end of the day, it’s about human connection. Tell your story. You never know who needs to hear it.
